Nostalgic Vibes

Who can say they did sewing in the 80’s? Remember the blouses and dresses with the ginormous puffed sleeves that took 2 metres of fabric alone? Remember the priscilla curtains at every window that took miles of ruffles? In the 90’s the Daisy Kingdom patterns were all the style for kids and I did lots of those for my girls! I have often said I would love to know the total miles I have sewn in those years alone!

Back to present day…for a few years I would start a project and then put it down never to pick it back up again. It would look at me and make me feel guilty but somehow I just could not get my projects finished! Two weekends ago I got the urge to do a quilt. The April Showers collection by Heatherlee Chan from Northcott had come in and when I saw the fabric, and the pattern by Patti Carey, I could not resist! And so I impulsively started the project AND I finished it!!! You can see the quilt top on our Facebook and Instagram!

And now back to the real topic of this newsletter…. I have never done a quilt with batiks but last summer my daughter sewed a dress and I helped with a small portion of it from the Nostalgic Vibes collection. It was a delight to work with and I think the dress turned out gorgeous. That’s my daughter Meg modelling it at a ruins up near Wiarton Ontario.

Nostalgic Vibes is one of many of the Banyan Batiks collections. Banyan Batiks is a division of Northcott (so it is the same fabulous quality), and was established in 2017 (that’s why you may not have heard of them yet). Our selection of batiks is growing with many collections and basics to offer, you can browse the Batiks and Batiks Essential sections on our website. We have been trying to do more bundles and fat quarters as well. If you are interested in a collection in a fat quarter bundle and don’t see it listed, please feel free to ask. We are happy to put together bundles for our customers who do not wish to order a full half yard of each piece of a collection.  Shop the Nostalgic Vibes collection!

As we put together the orders of all the beautiful fabrics, we often say, “I would love to see this in a finished quilt!” We have planned to start a Facebook group where you all can share your beautiful projects, even if they are a work in progress, we would love to see them! In our little business, customer satisfaction is our number one priority. Most orders that come in before 2:30pm EST are sent out the same business day (the Post picks up at 3).

Do you want to know when we have new arrivals? Sign up for our emails (we do not send out emails very often because we do not want to clutter your in-box)!
