    Find Your Next Summer Project

These 5 projects are perfect for when time is tight, but you've been craving some time alone with your sewing machine. Each project shown here can be done in as little as a weekend with some only taking an hour to complete.

    01. Terracotta Thyme Granny Cabin

Terracotta Thyme is a mix of earthy tones creating a warm and inviting feel. This lightning fast project is sure to keep you cozy for years to come!

We made our sample quilt in a couple of days compared to the week or more it took to make the Gertrude's Star sample. We love our complex quilts and they provide some much needed mental stimulation during the winter months. But summer is usually busy for most of us and a quick-to-piece project like the Terracotta Thyme Granny Cabin won't take loads of time away from other things.

The Granny Cabin pattern makes use of strip piecing, and nested seams. This means there's no need for pinning. There's also no borders! Don't misunderstand us, we love borders around here, but they can slow things down a quite bit!

    02. Mary's Patchwork

Mary's Patchwork is an uncomplicated quilt with simple cutting and piecing. It's small size (50" x 55") and web piecing makes it quick and super satisfying. We web piece the rows with smaller squares first and then work on the rows with bigger squares last. Even for a beginner this is a really quick project.

If you've never heard the term 'web pieicing', you can find that and many other quilting terms in our quilting glossary here: Glossary of Common Quilting Terms

Mary's Patchwork kits are available in two colourways: Plum Creek and North Wind.

    03 - Scrunchies Sewing Pattern

There are few things as quick to make as a scrunchy. It'd also the perfect craft to do with your daughters or granddaughters. We've made it easy to make mix-and-match sets with our kits or you can grab the pattern and bust your stash!

Before this pattern, I'd have to scrounge the internet for what size to cut my fabrics when ever I wanted to make scrunchies. Now, with this pattern, I have 3 different sizes that have all been tested and I know they work. The Rapunzel's Scrunchy Pattern makes it easy to get the right proportions every time.

    04 - Ida's Pillowcase

Pillowcases are a go-to last minute gift around here because they are quick to whip up. If you've only quilted before and want to dip your toes into sewing, this is a great project for that. It's cut using a rotary cutter and acrylic ruler. And the pattern makes use of French seams, so no need to worry about extra tools or supplies like a serger or bias tape. Don't forget to pre-wash your fabrics!

The pattern is available as either a downloadable file or paper booklet.

You only need to cut 4 pieces of fabric to make 1 pillowcase. You can have a pair of these made in a weekend or less!

    05 - Peter's Pictures

The fabrics in the Golden Hour Peter's Pictures kit somehow manage to be both vibrant and subtle. It gives the quilt a soothing, summery aesthetic. Perfect for keeping you warm on cool nights by the campfire.

This quilt is quick to cut, and just as quick to sew as it features a lot of big pieces. This and the fact that you don't have to match up seas are all great things when you are in a hurry.
