A worthy cause
If you've been around here for a while, you know that we have a donation box on our checkout. We typically raise funds for a local church, Hope Chapel Collingwood, that acts as a community centre, providing aid to families who cannot afford essentials like milk, eggs and toiletries.
Hurricane Beryl: This one hits close to home...
And if you've been around here for a while, you also know that we are originally from Barbados, and we still have family there. As you've probably seen by now, Hurricane Beryl has torn through several islands in the Caribbean. This has very literally hit close to home.
While Barbados was affected by an incredibly powerful storm serge, the hurricane did not make landfall there. The damage was primarily along the southern and western coasts. This did devastate the fishing industry as dozens of fishing vessels were lost.
However, Grenada, Martinique and many other islands have been much more severely impacted, with loss of housing, food, communication and tragically loss of life. That's why, this month we've changed our donation box to support victims of Hurricane Beryl. We'll also be donating a portion of our sales to this cause.
We thank you for helping us to raise money for Hope Chapel's community cupboard program over the last few years, your generosity has provided many people with life essentials. We look forward to joining with you to raise funds for the people of the Caribbean at this time!
If you feel led to donate directly, Samaritan's Purse has set up a hurricane relief fund where you can donate to specifically to victims of Hurricane Beryl.
